Circus from the Nordic Sea

The wooden sailboat Johanne has sailed thousands of natutical miles from the North Sea through insidious Skagerrak, to the open Baltic Sea. Her hull has experienced madness and scurvy, and under the cover of the night, her crew has conspired, been drinking and taught themselves new tricks!

In strong gale the sea fog’s heroes stand weathered, raw and ready with a wild and imposed circus-show! A mad and ingenious balancing act about life aboard, and the world on land.

With neck-breaking acrobatics from the mast, handstand in the wind, and precision second to none in everything that takes place, the crew of artists and musicians demonstrates what happens when the line of command disappears, and creative anarchy breaks free!

“Circus from the Nordic Sea” is an impressive and seductive circus-show with a duration of approx. 60 min. and includes livemusic by Swedish electronica-artist Jenny Nilsson and is recommended for all ages. “Circus from the Nordic Sea” is the 2nd in line of DYNAMO’s co-produced circus performances!

CANCELLED – Mad Office

In the simple sales office of the furniture store Rucks Leather Interiors, Mr. Grareth Krubb (Wakenshaw) and Mr. Dennis Chang (Duncan) are going about their hectic business day after day. In their paltry “from 9 to 5” office atmosphere an extravagant world of fantasy unfolds. With little dialogue, Wakenshaw and Duncan fill their little world with silent, physcially expressive absurdity, and bizarre fantasies emerge from the monotony of everyday office life.

Trygve Wakenshaw is the acclaimed physical comedian behind shows such as Kraken, while his Kiwi compatriot Barnie Duncan is the creator of passionate salsa DJ Juan Vesuvius. Together they have created the wonderful and unique world of Mad Office, in which the ennui of office life spawns absurdist fantasy.

V.O.M.P

Slimmer, fairer, tighter, stronger. The play ‘Vanity of Modern Panic – V.O.M.P.’ holds up a mirror against the beauty-obsession’s botox-hardened face. How far are you willing to go to keep your body younger, than what your birth-certificate suggests?

A silicone-pumped play about the hunt for the perfect body; a proportion-distorted comedy about the longing after breasts, thighs and buttocks in the right size. A grotesque greeting to the powdered wigs and delicate soap bubbles of the baroque in a unique mixture of modern dance and physical theatre.

Gunilla Lind Dance Theatre is a Copenhagen based performance group led by choreographer Gunilla Lind. With her playful performances, Gunilla Lind presents a unique mix of contemporary dance and physical theatre. Always with food for thought and a humoristic touch leaving the audience somewhat puzzled and curious. Consistent interests in Gunilla Linds choreographic work are identity projects, group dynamics, gender roles, self-promotion through social media and body image. Gunilla Lind puts a mirror up to society and through quirky characters, odd movements and surprising effects she turns every day tendencies upside down. This makes the audience see everyday topics from a new and different angle. Through unusual costumes Gunilla Lind often de-humanizes the performers in order to challenge the way we perceive other human beings and the way we look at ourselves.

The Moon Illusion

A stuffed duck and 70 juggling rings is all they need. With a subtle sense for each other’s presence, the two jugglers employ equal parts artistic skill and simple chance to conjure up situations which are both surprising and touching. With each juggling throw, a new moment begins. A show in which a moon and a duck are everything and nothing.

Rapid Eye was founded in 2010, and has since then managed to establish itself with a unique profile in contemporary performing arts. The company creates performances on the border between modern circus, dance and visual theater. It reflects a distinct Nordic style of minimalist elegance. The performances are characterized by a love for human beings and their wondering at the world. They explore the perception of reality in a playful way. Rapid Eye questions the big and small things in life. The relation between you, me, life, and the universe are put under the microscope. Human in Balance

Europe is at a critical juncture. At breaking point – some believe. Its borders are challenged, and its dream of unification is under pressure. DON GNU and Dance House Lemesos present an exploration of the European citizen’s condition with Humans in Balance, in which they explore the current situation in a work of physical dance theatre that pulsates and dynamically shifts on the 500-kilo heavy balancing board ‘The Turmoil.’

DON GNU – Physical Theatre & Film is an artistic collaboration that focuses on dance and physical theatre. The company was founded in 2010 by the two choreographers Jannik Elkær and Kristoffer Louis Andrup Pedersen, who also constitute the artistic duo at the helm of DON GNU. Today the company is one of the most touring company in Denmark. In addition to extensive tour activities in Denmark, DON GNU has also toured in all the Nordic Countries, South Korea, Canada, big parts of Europe and Cuba. The company’s name is built around the paradox embedded in the name DON GNU. Don as an individual, and Gnu (wildebeest) as a herd animal, the constellation of both the individual and the collective creates the dynamism, experimentation and development-basis for the ideas that are the hallmark of DON GNU productions.

‘Human in balance’  is developed as part of the European Capital of Culture 2017 – in collaboration with the Cypriot Dance House Lemosos and Bora Bora – Dance and Visual Theatre.

W/hole

On all the holes in the whole world. Holes are both scary and exciting. Holes are possibilities and some holes are incomprehensible. So many holes exists, that we will never get to the bottom of it. In a simple ‘do-it-yourself’-manner, two jugglers get 9 shovels, 11 buckets, 76 meters of rope, 3 ladders and a thermos with hot coffee to comprise a whole and holy juggling-performance about everything that exists only because of the things that are absent.

Melodic Objects // Jay Gilligan

A century ago jugglers used to first think of a trick and then build a unique prop to accomplish that goal or concept. But in modern times, juggling props are mass produced and it all becomes a matter of what different tricks one can do with the exact same prop that everyone else in the world has.
When a new prop is finally introduced to the artistic community, the challenge becomes finding things to do with that particular shape that can’t be done with anything else in the world.

It’s equally easy to juggle with an apple and an orange, but quite another matter to find tricks that specifically need one instead of the other!

It’s harder to justify a certain design using traditional older juggling techniques because almost anything can be thrown into the air and caught. This is why a lot of new techniques end up using minimal throws, where the objects are more in contact with each other and physically interact. This physicality in the manipulation starts to blur the border between juggling and a lot of the other time-based art forms of puppetry, dance, mime, storytelling, and even music.

The show is closely related to all of these other arts, and yet stays true to juggling, though a form of juggling you may not have seen before.

The relation to music is furthered as a tribute to the world famous juggling troupe “The Flying Karamozov Brothers,” who observed: “Juggling is a series of events, throws and catches happening with respect to time. Music, similarly, is a series of events, notes as graphed against a continuum of time. This relationship between time and events in music is called rhythm. That same term, rhythm, can also be applied to the same relationship in juggling. So, as we’ve just seen, juggling is rhythm and music is rhythm. Now logic tells us that if A equals B, and B equals C, then A equals C… therefore, juggling is music!”

Jay Gilligan is an American juggler from Arcadia, Ohio, currently performing and living in Europe. He is one of the most creative and successful jugglers in the world. Jay is the main teacher of juggling and creator of the juggling program at the University of Dance and Circus in Stockholm, Sweden.

Arcade Delight

What do you do as a nostalgic when, do to 20 years of unstoppable technological advancement, the arcade machines have had to see themselves banished to the darkness? – When kitsch is no longer cool and we have gradually forgotten how to move on roller skates?

One option is undeniably and insistently to force breath life back into it accompanied by the tunes of Talkin Heads and Bowie and force feed the mischievous types with roller disco, shoulder pads and masterful circus acts.

Through a neon-lit retro arcade hall, you enter the pastel-colored parallel universe, to the sounds of the Donkey Kong and Pac Man themes. Stage smoke, light fixtures and DJs frame the roller skate disco dome, while a street of dilapidated sheds houses bars, roller skate dispatch center, air rifle shooting tent, a “redundancy horn” of a dressing room, face painting for adults, photo booth and street food trucks of straight out curiosities.

And then of course the circus!

If you can come dressed up according to the 80’s theme?!

YES!

Arcade Delight is an all-night event in a complete universe where you as the audience can move freely. There are very few rules for you in your role as an audience: Have a party and participate!

Arcade Delight is an immersive concept developed by DYNAMO, which means that you as an audience / participant, in addition to being included as a scenographic element, will also be able to interact with the acts and artists you are surrounded by.

You may want to dress up for Arcade Delight – feel free! Just like you might have pair of roller skates that you think the whole world should see – Bring ‘em – Helle, roll your way down here!

Any excess tickets are sold at the door.

Work in Progress – Object Manipulation

Note: This is a Work in Progress showing, which means that this is not a finished performance. By contrast, this presentation is a display of ideas and material that may form the basis for a finished performance.

Rhythm performers Villads, Ilmo, Livya & electronic composer Lasse Munk will work together throughout October on the basis of the theme “Action – Reaction”.

As dancers, they will use juggling patterns to see how they can juggle with their own bodies & space. As rhythm people, they will play with the rhythm & timing of juggling.

Focusing on timing, time and space. They will explore how to manipulate objects without being in direct contact with them, through the power of their bodies with breath, tramp & clap – from step, body percussion, beatbox as well as electrical appliances.

Free admission.

Pendulum

Boldly progressing backwards

Pendulum is two aristocrats’ cavalcade of self-reinforcing idiocracies and a peculiar fascination with everything that sways, cradles or swings.

Well-equipped with pocket watches, monocles and promising ingenuity that had previously led their peers to ground-breaking discoveries, two noblemen set out on a journey of inexplicable importance. In the familiar surroundings of upper-class comfort not even stupidity stands in the way of these two and their ingenious discoveries.

Slowly, it dawns on them however, that not everything is as it once was, for what is Nobility without riches, servants and reason?

“Pendulum, by the circus artists Thom Monckton and Luis Sartori do Vale is a playful flash for the greats of silent and physical comedy Buster Keaton, Jacques Tat and Freddie Frinton. The performance is a tribute to the greats of silent and physical comedy Buster Keaton, Jacques Tati and Freddie Frinton, familiar to many as the master of ceremonies of Miss Sophie, who every new year celebrates her 90th anniversary in the sketch Dinner for One. (…) In Pendulum, the stage is a playground and a game field. Instead of circus props, the momentum is taken from a rocking chair, a rocking horse, a rocking camera, and a rocking table. (…) The imaginative performance is my cup of tea, sugared with humour.” – Review of Pendulum, after the show in Oulu, Finland 2021 by Eeva Kauppinen

Horror film esthetics and eternal restlessness

All the things that constantly move back and forth is the essence of restlessness! Yet, we find in these motions an intrinsic comforting, as if they remind us of an experience before consciousness.

The performance aims to combine the explosiveness and action of circus with the human physical response to gentle constant movement.

Behind this physical comedy Pendulum are Thom Monckton and Luis Sartori do Vale.

About Thom Monckton:

[Monckton] “whose Only Bones featured at LIMF2017, [is] one of today’s most accomplished and inventive physical comedians. – (London Mime Festival)

★★★★★ “Monckton’s ability to manipulate the smallest parts of the body, not just to do this expertly well but while establishing a playful relationship with the audience, is mind-blowing” – (Across The Arts)

About Luis Sartori do Vale:

[With Luis] “We find ourselves at the crossroad of circus and visual arts and it’s just beautiful for the eyes.” – Branchés Culture

[Luis Sartori do Vale delivers] “A real scenic language that calls for the elegance of the gesture.” – ledauphine.com

Det får bära eller brista

An acrobatic performance telling the story of women’s strength

The research has its focus on Nordic women’s physical tasks during the last hundred years. It originates from interviews with the artists mothers, grandmothers, and great grand mothers.

In Det får bära eller brista six female acrobats work together as three duo pairs, as two trio groups, and as an acrobatic collective.

They all have approximately twenty years of experience as circus performers.

Det får bära eller brista is a beautiful, physical and impressive portrayal of the woman as the bearing figure in life. The show caters to audiences of all ages, but we recommended that smaller children come in the company of adults.

Nordic folkmusic

The music is based on the Nordic countries’ folk music and tradition. New compositions are inspired by traditional folk music from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.

The two musicians, the multi-instrumentalists Anna Cederquist and Anna Rynefors, illustrate and reinforce the performance with varied, warm, suggestive, happy, heavy and curvy modern folk music.

Kulovalkea

Kulovalkea is the Finnish wildfire, that eats its way through the landscape. The uncontrollable and meaningless force that leaves nothing behind but a blank canvas. Kulovalkea is a tribute to the loss of meaning and a circus shaped argument for the value of the unnecessary.

The performance is created by a young and talented ensemble from Finland. Through the dreamy landscape, playful details and rhythmic movement, an unbroken chain of fragmented scenes help create a universe both absurd and reviving, playful and entertaining.

Acrobatics, object manipulation and modern dance morph together and create an evocative space, where not all is as it seems and everything can be turned upside down.

In a world that idolizes the measurable as the meaningful, Kulovalkea defies all logic, feeds curiosity and challenges the rational mind.

CANCELLED: Only Bones v1.0

Due to Covid-19 restrictions this work-in-progress showing has been closed for the public. We can’t wait to see you again soon! Stay safe.

Some of you already know, the rest of you will discover it soon; Thom Monckton has an incredible ability to tell stories with his body. He is charming and present, and one is fascinated by the way in which he is in contact with his body and with his audience.

Whether he tells a love story with his toes, performs a conflict situation with his fingers, or has trouble getting his head straightened, you are blown back by how intense and interesting he is to look at.

‘Only Bones v1.0’ has already played at the prestigious London Mime Festival and had two successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In a stage area centered around 1 m2, a humorous tale of the body’s possibilities for telling great stories is played out. On stage is an artist, a technician, a light, no words.

★★★★★ Broadway Baby – “His playful, hypnotising, deceptively simple part-clown-part-physical-theater act makes you forget how the human body is supposed to work”

★★★★★ Across The Arts – “Monckton’s ability to manipulate the smallest parts of the body, not just to do this expertly but while establishing a playful relationship with the audience, is mind-blowing”

“Only Bones” is a comic dogma performance developed by Thom Monckton and at the time of writing, counts four parallel versions, of which Thom Monckton’s v1.0 is the first suggestion of how a physical comedian and performer creates a universe using only simple lights and his body.

Sisyphus Ascending

Like the hero of Greek mythology, this office-rat is tied to his workstation of grey nuances. The modern Sisyphus at first tries to come to peace with his predicament, but then rebels. In an office dominated by a high bookshelf, filled to the brim with folders and documents, Sisyfos endlessly tries to bring chaos to order…

(The show is sold out)

A modern fable of overcoming the monotony of repetition.

The performance is a poetic, sharp and funny interpretation of the Greek myth of Sisyphus, who is forever doomed to push a rock up a mountain, just to see it roll down again, so he has to start all over again. Here the myth is portrayed through a visually and physically powerful piece of contemporary circus.

We meet Sisyphus in his office with the oversized bookshelf, a table bursting with strange sounds, and heaps of uncontrollable papers. The strange office frames a modern Sisyphus dressed in a suit … and his bold attempt to break out of life’s eternal repetitions.

What must he overcome to endure his punishment? Can he find his freedom somewhere else?

NB: The performance is presented in collaboration with Teater Momentum and plays at their address: Ny Verstergade 18.

Tutti Frutti – a work in progress presentation

Tutti Frutti is a swirling mix of four talented, imaginative and creative artists. With acrobatics, juggling, dancing, magic, martial arts, hypnosis, climbing, cycling, graffiti, movies and waterfalls, they create a hectic and entertaining tangle. And yes, there will be fruits, but the title also refers to the mix of styles, characters and eclectic poetry.

With this work in progress performance the artists invite the audience into the engine room and provide an insight into the process of creating a show.

The four artists have studied together at Centre des Arts du Cirque de Toulouse and created the ensemble LPM when they graduated in 2015.

After the show it will be possible to attend a talk. You will be able to ask the artists question, about them or the performance.
The talk will be in English.

The show is for all age groups.

Free entrance.

Korus

Below Zero presents Korus – a work in progress production.

Korus is the Swedish word for choir or“collective voice”which is also the theme of the piece. In selected parts of the play the artists challenge the idea of what coming together truly means.
Through hand to hand acrobatics, tight wire walking and teeterboard they explore the question of circus and cooperation: cooperation between people but also cooperation with nature.

In Korus we meet four artists unaware of what is happening in the outside world and the chaos that is closing in.

It is a universe where communication is done through movement, balance, strength and acrobatics, but what happens to that universe when the outside world can no longer be ignored?

The music is composed by Mischa Grind and is inspired by traditional folk music as well as the urbane techno scene.

This combination creates a magical musical atmosphere for the audience to
enjoy but also reflect upon.

Below Zero was founded in 2018 and is a Swedish circus company performing modern and innovative circus arts performances. Their artistic expression revolves around the creation of warmth and human contact – inspired by the cold weather of Sweden.

Korus is their second production.

The performance is free, so book your ticket.

DOIS

Archery and brotherhood

Luis and Pedro are brothers. In addition to their genetic origins, they share a passion for contemporary circus and archery – a combination that unites in the performance DOIS, which in Portuguese means ‘two’.

Touching on topics such as empathy, intimacy, brotherhood and rivalry, together they explore the deeply symbolic weapon of bow and arrow.

With danger, ingenuity and humor, the two brothers take the audience on an exploration of a masculine universe that is equally conditioned by competition and love.

Piste, piste, piste

A playful dance with light

“One day a kid planted three little dots. And they grew into lines…”

Welcome to an adventurous universe where a blank canvas forms the background for imaginative stories.

Piste, piste, piste is an interdisciplinary performance for children and young audiences, combining contemporary circus, dance and visual arts.

Here two whimsical artists both dance, juggle and manipulate elements such as balls and lights that take them on a poetic and playful journey towards the unknown.

A poetic meeting

To the deep tones of a double bass, two performers move around the stage. One is a dancer, the other is a visual artist. Both with rooted experience as circus performers.

Based on a portmanteau – a linguistic term for new words that combine two meanings – the performance examines what happens in the meeting between two artistic expressions.

Together, the performers explore space, sounds, light and movement – a poetic and visual encounter between bodies and senses that entices and challenges the imagination.

Like in poetry, Portmanteau does not dictate a clear narrative, but rather allows the audience to bring in their own interpretations.

Det får bära eller brista

Acrobatic circus collective

With stoic calmness and physical strength, six female acrobats lift, fall and move across the stage to the sound of evocative and quirky folk music.

Throughout history women have always engaged in physical work associated with housekeeping, child care and life in general. The performance Det får bära eller brista is inspired by Nordic women’s physical tasks over the last hundred years.

Here the cast are all bearers of their ancestral stories, which they pass on through their bodies and choreography. A testimony of generations of women who encompass contrasts such as heaviness and lightness, strength and vulnerability, joy and sorrow.

A beautiful, physical and impressive portrayal of the woman as a supporting figure in life.

Red Haired Men

Wonderfully weird

Are they beautiful or insane? Do they live by logic, or do they exist in pure absurdity? A mass of questions emerge as the Red Haired Men take the stage.

In this performance you can experience meaningless, funny and almost magical characters who use dance, acrobatics and theater to create a unique and quirky universe. A thoughtful performance based on the censored Soviet avant-garde poet, Daniil Kharms.

“There was a red-haired man who had no eyes or ears. He didn’t have hair either, so he was called red-haired arbitrarily.
He couldn’t speak, since he didn’t have a mouth. He didn’t have a nose either.
He didn’t even have any arms or legs. He had no stomach and he had no back and he had no spine and he had no innards whatsoever. There was nothing!
Therefore we don’t even know whom we are even talking about. It’s better that we don’t talk any more about him.”

-Danjil Kharms

Red Haired Men is presented in collaboration with CCAF!

W/HOLE

On all the holes in the whole world

Holes are frightening and holes are fascinating. Holes represent possibilities and some holes are completely impossible to grasp. There are so many holes that we can never hope to get to the bottom of them all.

W/hole follow two  jugglers in their shared fascination with all of the holes that surround them. A surprising and absorbing interest which has led them from buttonholes to the deepest hole in the world, which is situated in Murmansk.

No hole is too big or small to contain their wonder – the holes they discover, the holes they fill and the holes they create as they go along.

From the taciturn relationship between these two anti-heros, and from their unorthodox choice of juggling objects, a wholehearted and hare-brained performance emerges. Combining deadpan comedy with their delicate sense of nerdy perseverance.

In their down-to-earth, do-it-yourself fashion, they employ shovels, buckets, ropes, sand and scaffolds to create a juggling show which is fully-formed, though full of holes; a piece about all of the things which are only there because other things are not. They remind us that in order to descend, one must sometimes step up.

In the end, we human beings are no more than the collection of matter around the hole which, in our own singular ways, we leave behind in the world when we die.

‘W/hole’ combines spectacular and visual qualities with the experience of two new circus artists of exceptional class.” – Teateravisen (Danish)

100% Circus

Raw strength and banalities

Is it possible to stand head down in a bucket of water? Or can you hang from the ceiling by your hair?

Two men wearing skirts are going through weird experiments. Sometimes they obviously play with the nerves of the audience. Sometimes they clearly do their best – and fail. Sometimes they should obviously fail – but surprise with the success.

The audience does not know what to believe anymore and has to face a demonstration of tricks that belongs to a myths.

In a chill and meditative atmosphere with a pinch of some Monty Pythonesque humour, we are witnesses to random up and down-moments, when experiments either lead to unconditional success or ultimate failure.

100% Circus was set to perform in the spring season 2021. Unfortunately we had to cancel due to Corona. But now they’re back, and looking forward to meeting the audience!

Based on the premise that everything is fucked up, but nothing is lost yet, they take us on a post-apocalyptic acid trip where everything is crucial, but nothing is serious.

It is the end of the world as we know it, of the society in which we live, of humankind and of the systems which were created to allow us to live together. It’s also made up of micro-apocalypses: The toast which falls butter side down.

The atmosphere is poetic and dystopic. The piece uses a consumerist aesthetic where circus explores the use of recyclage of everyday objects. Welcome to a world seen through the eyes of La Barque Acide.

POSTPONED – 080

Out of thin air

0 can be both a starting point and a point of completion. Between these two extremities: an existence, an infinity of possibility.

Over 80 minutes 080 traces, educes and narrates the story of an imaginary being with humour and tenderness: neither woman nor man, having neither genitalia nor mouth, without value, brotherless, sisterless, friendless, without modesty.

They traverse their existence as a succession of first times, discovering themself, meeting themself, losing themself. Blossoming, hurting, entertained, moved; finally leaving without joy or pain, because that is their way.

A moving performance by French HNG, that guested DYNAMO in 2019 with the performance ’3D’.

The performance is postponed due to the locodown

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION WITH HNG

In January 2019, DYNAMO witnessed Jonathan Guichard’s performance 3D at the BiAC festival in Marseille (France). We were so excited that we immediately invited him to perform it in Odense. Usually Jonathan does not travel that far to perform a single show, but he made an exception for DYNAMO as he had heard good things about our workspace here at Byens Ø.

Now he is back again with a brand-new piece, which is still in the making. DYNAMO is co-producing it together with a number of renowned circus-houses from Europe.

In 2021 Jonathan Guichard will make his way to DYNAMO for a production period in January, and in April he will return for the Nordic premiere. We look forward to collaborating with the established artist, and are excited to present the result!

The ANTI-ISM Project

In collaboration with the cultural institution Katapult (Berlin), DYNAMO invites a circus company or an artist to explore the subject of inclusion.

The two selected artists, Kathrin Wagner and Emma Hornell, receive a week’s time production support in Berling and Odense, which will culminate with work in progress showings and artist talks.

So far, we can’t tell you what exactly it will end up being. But we can guarantee that it is experimental, contemporary circus that gives the audience a snapshot of modern performing arts à la 2021.

The showing is presented as a part of the Harbour Culture Festival, under the theme Art & Science. After the showing, we organise a talk in our series DYNAMO After Dark with brain researcher Åsa Fex Svenningsen from SDU.

See the rest of the Harbour Culture Festival on www.havnekulturfestival.dk

The event will be in English.

Sawdust Symphony

What exactly is the satisfaction to hit a nail into wood? What is the sensation when sanding a surface and how does it feel for a machine to work? In this creation the performers share the stage with tools and machinery in a unik circus experience.

Sawdust Symphony talks about the human desire to create: the process from vision to construction, the tragedy of work and the relationship between tools and humans.

With object manipulation and Magie Nouvelle, a unique and absurd story is told about the universe of work.

BARK

REMEMBER YOUR CORONA-PASSPORT

BARK is a poetic, spectacular and thought provoking contemporary circus performance for a forest, an audience, and five performing artists. Played site-specifically in and with your local forest, BARK is about reconnecting with each other and with nature. The forest, the soil and the trees are the main characters of the performance, and co-create the piece together with the performers, climate scientists and outside eyes.

The performance combines a physical expression of group acrobatics, vertical dance, dance and physical theatre with contemporary soundscapes and poetic text, all performed up in, between, with and around the trees. Through being nature, reconnecting, and living utopia, BARK aims to convey a sensory experience that can change perspectives on our human natures, as a part of the biosphere.

SOLD OUT! Sharks on Board

Sharks On Board is a Danish contemporary circus production, suitable for children and childish souls of all ages. The performance takes place in a universe where anything can happen and only the imagination sets the limits. A world where audiences can sit back and enjoy an acrobatic journey full of stories, surprises and breathtaking circus art.

The performance goes beyond circus, with elements from modern dance and theater, which help to bind the small abstract stories together into a whole. We try to create a space where everyone can follow, across age and background. A space where the viewer can be seduced by world-class contemporary, and enjoy a break from everyday stress.

Sharks on Board premiers on April 23rd, with performances at Friskolen Glasværket and Lilleskolen. The shows are sold out.

CANCELLED: The Third Law

Physics turned upside down

Have you ever tried flicking a switch and the lights comes on?

Of course, you have. It’s a commodity we see as natural in today’s society. But what if it wasn’t?

Newton’s third law of motion states: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction…”

What if that meant that, when you turn the light on, the light goes out somewhere else? When you travel up with an elevator, someone else has to travel down? And when you fall, someone else starts flying…?

With acrobatics, live music, ingenuity and a spark of madness, four circus artists climb, balance, and tumble through a contemporary circus performance inspired by games theory, physics and energy consumption as they explore the consequences of human behavior.

FUCKD

New boundary-pushing performance for children and young people with humor, seriousness and neckbreaking acrobatics

“If we are to experience continued growth in Denmark so that each generation becomes richer and can consume more than the previous one, the Danish youth must run faster and perform better. But at the same time, we also need creative young people who can go new ways, think outside the box and find new solutions to the problems we face… ”

As a service to the Danish efforts in the global economic competition, DYNAMO has therefore, in collaboration with the Ministry of Research and Education Center for Chaos and Disruption (FUCKD), created a breathtaking and entertaining program to teach children how to steal a car, rebel, prank their school and defend against everything from zombies to boring, angry adults.

The Last Supper

5 characters unite during a final meal.

This modern circus performance combines dance, physical theatre, music and humor in a heartbreaking exploration of the dark spiral that can occur after a personal or societal tragedy.

The actors are all physical performers who each specialize in a unique circus discipline. In The Last Supper, they come together for the first time in a poetic study of the subject of self-destruction, and the overriding urge to get everything out on the table before the irreversible abyss.

A body and other objects

Work in progress

Imagine approaching the human body with the same curiosity we apply to an unfamiliar object – exploring, sensing, and discovering boundaries.

A BODY AND OTHER OBJECTS reimagines the body as both material and artifact, blurring the lines between animate and inanimate. The fascinating technique of hair-hanging conjures up the immense power hidden within each of us. By evoking the fantasy of weightlessness, the piece creates a poetic and whimsical world where the boundaries between body and object, as well as between circus and dance, become blurred.

Drawing from object-oriented perspectives, the piece weaves together the disciplines of hair-hanging, partner acrobatics, object manipulation, new magic, and performative rigging. This innovative blend creates a captivating experience, guiding the audience through a slow, magical discovery of the suspended body and the orchestra of objects that accompany it.

Tension

Work in progress

Tension is a contemporary circus piece that explores the concept of limits. The piece is created from a political perspective to express the need to recognize limits, whether inherited from personal experiences or culturally acquired, and how they affect our lives. There are limits that evoke negative sensations and emotions, and if we are capable of acknowledging them, we can transform them or choose how and where we want to position ourselves.

It is the intimate space where the personal and the social coexist. TENSION explores a new way of performing circus: using 40-meter long elastic bands, a different and challenging material, placed on a diagonal-horizontal axis, an unusual arrangement in aerial acrobatics.

Waiting for the Sea Eagle

‘Waiting for the sea eagle’ is an ode to life and all its sensations.
It is a dance exposed at the edges of change, unfolding in a sonic abstract universe.
A calling, challenging the limits of being to points of transformation. Multiple different energies and emotions accumulate to transcend daily life into a vibrant surrealist territory.

Together, Iona and Joseph conjure a visceral atmosphere, at once both primeval and futuristic. They weave the pores of existence into a journey of the soul. A song of survival and obsession.

The artist alone as the artist, an island, a dream, a history, a disturbance and a longing.
The mind left wandering in isolation and thought grows intensely inward and empowers a deeper vision. Waves of conversation, re-enactments, repetition, questions and reasoning uninterrupted become magnified. Ritualistic embodiment takes over.

Contradictory extremes are tested.
A survival will power, unfaltering vision and hunger for deliverance drive the direction.
It is a fragile journey of interconnected life, death and apparitions of unknown atmospheres testing the path.
It is a living dream escalating and collapsing.
Iona and Joseph are lost within their own magnetic connection touching and colliding in the atmosphere.
Trapped within themselves and free as the wind, they wait for the birds to return, to sing.
Only nature knows the order.

Seated at long tables, we gather for the final meal — with five performers among us, who, through dizzying acrobatics, dance, live music, and plenty of humor, share their stories of being trapped in the spirals of life and the dreams they never realized. A tribute to living life in the moment, while we still can!

The Final Meal is not food theater, but sensory dishes are served along the way, enhancing the scenes with scents, visuals, tastes, and sounds. On the tables, right before the audience’s eyes, the performers show how we can break free from the fear of failure — if we dare to let go.

This nearly wordless contemporary circus performance appeals to a wide audience. One moment they can be captivated by breathtaking, poetic circus acts, and the next, find inspiration for reflections on our lived lives.

Grand Danois

A humorous and high-energy performance about utopias and the pursuit of freedom.

GRAND DANOIS is an anarchistic circus performance that, through circus acrobatics, music, and devil-may-care humor, questions our concepts of freedom and our pursuit of material wealth.

We meet a ragtag and slightly dysfunctional circus troupe living on the road in their quest for freedom. A life surrounded by the scent of sawdust and popcorn, where home is wherever the old, battered circus wagon, Lotte, is parked by the roadside for the night.

Their dream is to own a genuine circus tent, just like in the grand circuses abroad! To revive the glory of the circus and travel the world to the sound of applause and admiration. But perhaps the journey is just as important as the destination? And what is the true cost of freedom and community?

Amble Fusion: Circus & Technology

Residency / Work in Progress

Noah Schiltknecht has developed and created the Amble Fusion juggling balls, equipped with sensors and software that allow them to be programmed to behave in various ways during juggling.

During his residency at DYNAMO, Noah is exploring how these innovative tools can be used artistically and what they might mean for performance on stage. The relationship between the juggler and the objects is being redefined, shifting the focus from human-centric object manipulation to a more equal balance with this new “performer,” which communicates through music and explores new possibilities with light and trajectories.

Symphony Of Solitude – S.O.S

Winner of the Reumert Special Award 2024!

Symphony Of Solitude – S.O.S is a surreal and playful performance installation that, with humor and poignancy, illuminates loneliness, connection, and the curious dynamics of neighborhood life through sound and visuals.

The performance takes place in a spectacular round installation, designed like a cross-section of a building reminiscent of a giant dollhouse. It is inhabited by characters whose bizarre yet deeply human existences resonate with audiences. Each character, living in their own little universe, moves between scenic stillness and frenetic activity—always disconnected, yet linked by a common thread: the quiet presence of loneliness.

Mulliville

A circus performance for the whole family.

Three comedic acrobats and an electronic rodeo bull they try to tame. In this encounter, who is the docile one, who is the bull, and who is the most human?

Mulliville is inspired by the black-and-white golden age of silent films, where physicality, timing, and music were everything. Guaranteed laughter, slapstick, and daring somersaults! The stage becomes a playground for kids after the show.
