Making Space

Handstand and metal structures.

Two women and a scenography of movable metal constructions, and an exploration of the relationship between body, architecture and space.

Through handstands, circus and movements, the artist’s body examines the room both horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Making Space is a poetic circus choreography that examines the circus body in changing spaces.

About the performance

Making Space is a circus choreographic and philosophical work about the body, space and architecture. Based on contemporary circus and extended choreography, two women work with a scenography consisting of two movable metal constructions and a wooden box. The scenography creates spaces, and the bodies relate to the spaces.

With handstands and circus movements, they explore the room in concrete, minimalist choreographies. They examine the imprint of the artist’s body in space, horizontally, vertically, diagonally. They balance on the edge, hang from the top, lean against the corner, stand on each other.

They explore the scenography as a prop, the prop as a space, and the space as a place. They work in the in-between spaces and make visible the spaces we otherwise don’t see.

About the company

Since 2005, Cikaros has worked with circus choreographic works where we play with a physical language with inspiration from many disciplines. We develop sophisticated circus choreography with physical precision and philosophical subtexts, and we are fascinated by what the circus body and the choreography itself tells when it meets its surroundings.
