Manifest – How Far are You Willing to Bend?

“we give you art not answers”

MANIFEST is an insanely controlled and wildly chaotic performance exploring  contemporary society from the perspective of the circus artists on stage.

Five eclectic performers create their own rules in a colorful stage collage evoking more questions than answers. To the pumping beats of Milla Lahtinen we meet a crawling transformation, two identical twins, a body questioning its ownership, the snake, and what seems to be a flying mermaid. Who decides, who adapts? In this fusion of contortion, aerials, and personal manifests we embark on a journey to think outside the box.

“I’m ceasing to be.I’m the abandonment of success, of productivity. I’m a walking boycott.”

– Mau Cugat

“How Far Are You Willing to Bend?” is a performance series orchestrated by Élise Reine. Her role has been to shape the conditions of creation by gathering artistic dialogue, institutional structures, and the individuality of each creator involved. Through five solo chapters, the artists have reflected on personal experiences of pushing their own and others’ boundaries—sexually, mentally, and physically. MANIFEST is the sixth and collective chapter, composed of these international circus artists, each with their own artistic integrity. They come together with the ambition to open minds to the unknown and contribute to a more inclusive, shame-free world—for circus, for art, and for humanity. In collaboration with Östgötateatern, Élise has worked as a co-creator in some chapters, as an external eye in others, and as the director of her own chapter.
