Acting for Climate / BARK

Acting for Climate are doing a residency at DYNAMO, to create and premiere their upcoming production, BARK.

The performance

BARK is a poetic, spectacular and thought provoking contemporary circus performance for a forest, an audience, and five performing artists. Played site-specifically in and with your local forest, BARK is about reconnecting with each other and with nature. The forest, the soil and the trees are the main characters of the performance, and co-create the piece together with the performers, climate scientists and outside eyes. The performance combines a physical expression of group acrobatics, vertical dance, dance and physical theatre with contemporary soundscapes and poetic text, all performed up in, between, with and around the trees. Through being nature, reconnecting, and living utopia, BARK aims to convey a sensory experience that can change perspectives on our human natures, as a part of the biosphere.

BARK will premiere May 7th (plays May 8th and 9th), and tour Denmark, Norway and Finland by bike during the summer and autumn of 2021.

Performed and co-created by: Heidi Miikki (FI), Abigael Winsvold (NO), David Eisele (DE), Frøydis Dahlø (NO) and Emma Langmoen (NO)
Outside eyes: Rebecca Tiger (SE) and Karen O’Brien (NO/US)

The Danish Tour

“The tour and performance have been a research opportunity in how to do a project sustainably at all levels. The forest has its own voice and it is the voice of the future. We want to listen to this voice and create new narratives. We wanted to tour as sustainably as possible, by bike and in all types of weather, also as a commentary on today’s values of speed and efficiency.
We are trying to live the change we want to see, and it is very empowering, challenging and educational. A part of this way of living is to work together with others. Many friends and amazing people have supported us along the way, especially DYNAMO. The BARK tour has been a beautiful and uniting experience in the amazing landscape of Fyn. We hope that our journey can inspire people to act for a more sustainable future, and that performing arts will take an increasing leading role in promoting sustainability in the arts.”

The company

Acting for Climate works in the intersection between arts and environmentalism. Initiated in 2015, our aim is to inspire people to act for a more sustainable future. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, a constant search of new methods and expressions, and a belief that both the process and the product are political, we will always strive towards developing the art field, and changing the world.

BARK is made possible with support from DYNAMO, Nordic Culture Point, SPENN Norge, Taike Finland og Bergsmyrene Gård.

In residency at Dynamo from Mar. 22. 2021 to May. 7. 2021
