Residency Open Call – Spring 2025

We are now receiving applications for an upcoming 4-weeks residency in Spring 2025 dedicated to contemporary circus artists

Professional contemporary circus artists and companies, based anywhere in the world, including Denmark are welcome to apply. We encourage applications from artists/companies who plan to premiere their performance within a year from the residency.

The theme for the residency is CIRCUS AND TECHNOLOGY. With this theme, we wish to explore various ways in which circus creation can be facilitated by the use and engagement with technologies, technological innovations or new approaches to disciplines or apparatuses, aided by technology.

We are also interested in projects where technology is an object of artistic research, ie. circus practice that questions/challenges/reflects on the use of technology today, or offers speculative accounts for the future.

The residency is open to artists working in any circus discipline.

Through the residency programme, DYNAMO aims to support the circus environment to its fullest extent by also providing artists with the opportunity to do unrestricted creative work and contribute to the development of contemporary circus in the Nordic region and Europe.

What we offer

Space: As a group/artist in residency at DYNAMO you are provided with your own workspace in our Studio –  approx 6m x 10m. You get access to basic circus rigging equipment, crash mats and such. (Our max height for rigging in the ceiling is 5,5 metres.) Basic lights and sound.

Economy: For this residency, provide  950 EUR production fee (per company) and we cover travel costs (up to 670 EUR). Applicants from outside of Europe are eligible to apply, but we cannot provide administration support for visa, etc.
We also provide accommodation in a shared apartment with separate rooms during your residency (limits may apply for big companies). You can see pictures of the apartment here.

Documentation & PR: We offer PR through our digital media and print programme; the work in progress presentation will be shot by our photographer.

Lunch: We provide lunch Monday to Friday and access to the kitchen on weekends and evenings. No other meals are provided.

What we expect

A public work in progress showing is part of the residency agreement. The showing will also be included in the program for our audience. As a selected artist/company you provide materials for PR and promotion. In this residency you will share documentation of your process and credit DYNAMO on digital media during your stay.
We expect the selected artists to be available for the residency for the entire period (31st March – 25th April 2025)

Who can apply

Any professional artist or group/company based anywhere in the world, including Denmark. You can apply with an already started production or an artistic research project that is not necessarily resulting in a performance. Please note that a work in progress presentation is part of the residency agreement.

When and where

The residency period is from 31st March 2025 to 25th April 2025 and takes place at DYNAMO, Finlandkaj 6, in Odense, Denmark. We allow some flexibility in arrival and departure dates within this frame. The work in progress presentation will take place on 24th April 2025.
