Chelsea Carmichael grew up in Warrington, England, with her parents who were both dancers on the northern jazz and funk scene in England. Here she grew up with her ears deeply planted in her parents’ record collection and thus got everything from funk and jazz to her father’s Jamaican roots massaged in from an early age.

On the debut album “The River Doesn’t Like Strangers” threads are drawn to sweaty dub and reggae, while at the same time aiming for ambient and psych-rock tendencies, while soul, funk and new age are wrapped around jazz as the basic structure.

Carmichael is part of the Mercury-nominated band SEED Ensemble and featured on their release Driftglass from 2019. In addition, she currently plays with Theon Cross and Neue Grafik Ensemble, amongst others.
