Thom Monckton is spending this residency to work on his performance – The King of Taking – produced by Kallo Collective.

About the performance

The King of Taking boasts circus, mime, and a whole lot of velvet. Allergic to normal flooring, a childish and petulant King can only walk on red carpet, and can’t move without an effective fanfare. His executions are unsustainably frequent as he callously barrels towards his own destruction. The King requests wrapped gifts from his subjects (you). Gifts can be old or new and will feature on stage.

About the artist

Thom Monckton  trained for two years at New Zealand’s circus school CircoArts and two years at the physical theatre school Lecoq in Paris. He has worked around New Zealand as a solo artist and as an actor with the Ugly Shakespeare Theatre Company. He is now based in Europe.
