Join us for an afternoon workshop at DYNAMO focusing on a very concrete aspect of international touring: transporting scenery and stage sets.
This workshop is not about how to establish contact with international venues and festivals or how to sell your performance. Instead, it focuses exclusively on an often overlooked but essential aspect of touring: how do you get your production from one place to another, and what do you need to consider when it comes to customs, documentation, and more?
The workshop, led by Christian Gronemann from CVX Air & Sea – international freight forward, is divided into four main areas:
- Touring within the EU – when transport is relatively straightforward and customs clearance is generally not required.
- Touring in Europe outside the EU – for example, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, and other countries where customs and documentation become part of the planning process.
- Overseas touring with an ATA Carnet – how an ATA Carnet can make international touring significantly easier.
- Countries where an ATA Carnet cannot be used – what alternatives are available and how to handle these projects in practice.
During the workshop, Christian Gronemann will cover different modes of transport by land, sea, and air, including their respective advantages and disadvantages. He will also address topics such as insurance and special solutions for time-critical productions.
The workshop combines presentations with practical experiences and case studies, including insights from Maja Bonde Holtze from Uppercut Danseteater. She will share the perspective of a touring company, covering communication with venues, transport planning, packing scenery and equipment, documentation, customs procedures, and the challenges and solutions typically encountered along the way.
The workshop concludes with an opportunity for participants to reflect on their own international ambitions and logistical challenges, providing a tool for thinking ahead and planning future productions and tours.
