Venue and workspace for circus

Residency

Our mission with DYNAMO residencies is to create sustainable conditions for artists, offer space and promote the artform of contemporary circus in Denmark and the Nordic Region.

the residency programme

Every year, we welcome around 10 companies and artists in residency, for a stay that can be anything between 3 days and 1 month long.
Longer residencies are curated by DYNAMO and selected through an Open Call, usually dedicated to a specific theme.
In addition to these, we also offer Non-thematic residencies, which are residencies that respond to the needs of the artists. For these, we receive rolling applications all year long via this Google Form

We read and respond to applications once a month.

If you are a professional circus artist and have an idea for a project, a production that is already started, or you need just a few weeks of production before your premiere, you can apply for a DYNAMO non-thematic residency.
The focus of the residency will be your project exclusively and you are responsible to set your own goals for your stay here.

Find below some answers to most common questions about our residencies, as well as criteria for eligibility.

about residencies

We welcome applications for projects at all stages of creation, from all circus disciplines within the art form of contemporary circus

It’s important to note that not all residencies must be connected to a production. If you are looking for a space to explore or do research, without a performance in mind, you are also welcome to apply.

We normally plan our calendar 8-12 months ahead. However, we are open to receiving shorter notice applications and we usually trying to accommodate artists, if our calendar allows it.

We read and respond to applications once a month.

We take into account how the project fits in with the rest of our programme and projects in the given timeframe. We also look at the artistic quality, the ambition and scope of the project, and the technical fit with our space. We curate the residencies to ensure a diverse and balanced programme.

While most residents wish to be included in our programme with a work in progress presentation and test the work with our audience, this is not mandatory. We usually work closely with the resident to find the best way to facilitate an encounter with the public and to organise feedback sessions and we also understand when the process is fragile and the project is not ready to be shared publicly.

If your project is included in our public programme, we expect that you provide high-resolution photos, a text, and other information that will help us communicate about the project.

If you do not have a public presentation, we still have a commitment to our funders to communicate all our activities, so we will likely share photos/videos or artist interviews from your project.

As a resident you will receive a space to work (Main Stage or Studio), a travel grant to come to DYNAMO, accommodation while in Odense, technical support for research and/or presentation, daily lunch monday-friday, perks in our bar & merchandise shop. We can also provide in-house artistic sparring, if the resident requests it. Terms apply.

No, however, due to our mission to support the development of circus in the Nordic Region and Europe, we encourage applications from these geographical areas. We also operate with limited funding, so we may not be able to cover travel costs from overseas.

You can find the technical sheet for DYNAMO at this link. Here you can see the details for the Main Stage and Studio, which are the spaces where residencies take place. For more information, you’re welcome to contact our Technical Coordinator at elena@dynamoworkspace.dk
