Circus artist and creator Hendrik van Maele is joining a unique DYNAMO residency, in which he combines his circus practice with creative writing, poetry slam, and video making. This is a site-specific residency, in which Hendrik produces artistic responses to the DYNAMO remodeling and renovation, as an exploration of aesthetic and performative qualities of the physical act of demolition and renovation.

About the artist

Hendrik completed his studies at ACaPA, Tilburg (Academy for Circus and Performance Art) in 2017, where he focused mainly on partner acrobatics. Together with Josse De Broeck, Petra Steindl and Felix Zech, Hendrik formed the collective Familiar Faces and won the BNG Circus Prize after graduation. With their first full-length show Surface, they were nominated as winners of Circusnext. 

Hendrik is driven by the curiosity of daily routines. Circus offers him a framework in which to unravel this everyday reality and express it in a medium that is recognisable to the outside world.
